East Austin Arts presents, in association with Fusebox Festival, an exhibition of piñatas made by a diverse group of Austin-based artisans and artists. With a remarkable history that has roots in ancient China, the Piñata is a ubiquitous element of east austin’s visual culture. In keeping with the performative aspect of the Fusebox festival, the event will culminate in a public destruction of each and every pinata, revealing the prizes within. Like the great Texas rapper Pimp C famously said, “Cause one day they’re here and baby the next day they’re gone”.
Opening reception: Saturday, April 26, 5 pm at 916 Springdale, Big Medium at Canopy. Breaking of the pinatas will start at 8 pm.
